The International Blue Carbon Scientific Working Group (IBCSWG) held its 14th annual meeting in Mérida, Mexico on October 10-14, 2022, in parallel of the II Mangroves of the Americas Congress. The meeting had a record in person attendance of over 100 people from 16 countries throughout the week, with a minimum of 36 additional remote attendees.

The meeting focused on discussing current scientific issues related to blue carbon’s role in climate action and what new information is needed to integrate blue carbon science in policymaking processes worldwide. Given the importance of Mexico as a blue carbon country, the meeting provided a unique opportunity for the IBCISWG to support blue carbon science, policy and project development in that country and, more broadly, across the American continent through the overall with the Mangroves of the Americas Congress.
