Blue Carbon Initiative Project Funded by SATREPS

On May 11, 2016, SATREPS (Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development), a program funded by JICAJST (Japan International Cooperation Agency and Japan Science and Technology Agency) announced the acceptance of a 5-yr Philippine-Indonesia-Japan project entitled, “Comprehensive Assessment and Conservation of Blue Carbon Ecosystems and Their Services in the Coral Triangle (BlueCARES)”. Blue Carbon Initiative members Miguel Fortes and Andreas Hutahaean are two of the principal officers and researchers for the project, and will be collaborating with Professor Nadaoka Kazuo at the Tokyo Institute of Technology’s School of Environment and Society.  The project will be a tremendous opportunity for the Blue Carbon Initiative to help the Philippine Government establish a national blue carbon strategy and action plan.
